Sex-attack suspect shown in estate security video

A 15-year-old sex-attack victim has identified a man as her assailant from images captured on security cameras at a public estate in Kwai Chung, police say.

Officers believe the man could be a serial sex attacker after two other attempted assaults on schoolgirls, also at the Lai Yiu Estate, this month.

Police are trying to determine the man's identity and believe he may live on the estate. A team of plainclothes officers mounted surveillance at the estate yesterday.

The 15-year-old girl was indecently assaulted on a staircase of the estate's Kwai Yiu House on Tuesday after school.

Assistant Kwai Tsing district commander (crime), Superintendent Chan Kwok-keung, said the girl had identified a suspect from security camera footage.

'We have to do some analysis work and gather more information and intelligence before we can confirm the man is the right person and release his picture,' he said.

One police investigator said the sex attacker knew the estate well.

'He knew where to hide and launch his attacks and how to flee in the estate to avoid being discovered. So it is possible he might be one of the residents.'

The attacker is described as about 25, thin and with a dark complexion.

Anyone with information should call officers from Kwai Tsing district crime squad on 2410 2359.
