As a faithful reader of the SCMP since my school days, I have witnessed many changes in the newspaper, from the black and white period to today's electronically- designed colour edition.

The ever-enriching content and impartial stance have made the newspaper an authority. Personally, I was particularly impressed by the newspaper's accurate and fair reports on a study tour to France on the development of the Daya Bay nuclear plant, which I led as a legislative councillor in the late 1980s.

We educationalists always say that it takes 100 years to nurture a generation of talent. In this regard, I congratulate the SCMP for persistently and consistently keeping people from different walks of life informed over the past century by delivering quality, detailed news coverage and features to our doorsteps every day.
