An MTV press conference last week contained just one surprise.

It wasn't the announcement that the 2004 MTV Asia Awards would held on Valentine's Day, in Singapore (hardly shocking, given the entire room and stage were covered in red hearts).

No, the big surprise came during a Q&A by Michelle Branch, when a blond man in his 20s emerged from the paparazzi and asked if she remembered him. Taken aback, she said, 'No ... ', at which the young man stripped down to his underpants. He dove at her with a ring and asked for her hand in marriage, and screamed: 'I love you Michelle!' as he was dragged offstage. Understandably, Michelle had a look of terror on her face.
