Investigation launched in death of barking deer

The death of a barking deer following its capture in Sai Kung yesterday is being investigated by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. The year-old Indian muntjac - a protected wild animal - was found wandering on Hiram's Highway in Nam Wai shortly after 10am. When conservation officers arrived, the deer appeared scared and rammed its head against some railings. They caught the 60cm-tall deer using two wooden poles with loops, but it struggled and died at the scene.
