Harbour Fest books opened

The government opened the books on Harbour Fest yesterday and confirmed that taxpayers will have to foot a $100 million bill for the three-week extravaganza.

American Chamber of Commerce chairman Jim Thompson, the main organiser, blamed a lack of sponsorship, prompted by negative publicity, surrounding the festival for the shortfall.

And he denied claims that the Rolling Stones were paid three times their normal fee to perform.
