What's On

RIGHT ON Q

Lu Xun was one of the masterminds of contemporary Chinese literature. Yet he may not be as famous as Ah Q, a satirical character he created to illustrate the social problems in the country around the time of the two world wars.

Ah Q has now come to life at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

'The true story of Ah Q', adapted from Lu's best fictional work under the same title, depicts an ignorant farm worker who experiences an utter lack of self-awareness and, as a result, a series of humiliations. The term 'Ah Q-ism' has been widely used to describe the 'complacency of imagined superiority' and has become an intrinsic part of the Chinese vocabulary.

Five shows start at 7.30pm from today , until November 22. There is also a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Ticket prices range from $45 to $100. For reservations call 31 288 288.
