Don't hurry, be healthy

Think of French fries, hamburgers and apple pies and what name springs to mind?

McDonald's of course. Just look around - you can see one on almost every corner in Hong Kong.

Why has it been able to establish such a huge empire? Well, yes, the food is tasty, but more importantly, it's fast.

Order a chicken-nugget meal. A box of chicken nuggets, a packet of fries and a Coke will be on your tray in no more than 10 seconds.

Now, what do you think a stocking and a pile of eggshells can be used for? A cup of traditional milk tea. It's really simple - you just put the eggshells into the stocking, pour tea over it several times and voila! a cup of smooth milk tea is made! However, it's very difficult to find a cup of this traditional tea in Hong Kong these days. Why? Because the brewing process is too long. No one is willing to wait more than 4 minutes for tea, because they're just so busy. That's why our milk tea has been condensed into a teeny packet of powder.

People nowadays are always rushing around. They seem so busy. 'I've got endless club meetings, major essay deadlines to meet, I need to be fast, really fast.' That's the motto of the fast-food culture in Hong Kong.

Nowadays we not only need to eat fast and move fast, we also need to slim fast. Everyone has become so busy that they can't even spare 30 minutes a day for exercise. They'd rather rely on artificial products like slimming machines and slimming pills.

Let's pause and think for a while. Are we really so busy that we can't even afford a little time to enjoy a nice cup of tea, or to do some exercise in the park nearby? How much time do we waste chatting online, or complaining?

Fast food is unhealthy. McDonald's products can lead to blocked blood vessels and a high risk of heart disease. Slimming pills can have bad side effects in the long run, while rushing around all the time leads to stress.

To end this fast food culture in Hong Kong, we not only need to eat fewer instant noodles and French fries, but also find time for more relaxation. And the key to that is to manage your time well.
