YESTERDAY'S shootings raise the number of people killed by police this year to seven.

Another victim, Lee Bun, 28, remains in a critical condition after being shot five times during a suspected car theft at Lok Fu on August 31.

This year's death tally already equals that of 1992.

Yesterday's shootout ended in the deaths of Chu Chi-kwong, 38, and suspected illegal immigrant Wong Shing, 29.

On May 10, another suspected illegal immigrant was shot during a chase through Shamshuipo.

Ten days earlier, Chan Hon-wing, 34, was shot and killed at the wheel of his car, after police claimed he drove off while an officer was trapped with his arm in a window.

A suspected burglar was the third suspect killed this year, shot during a struggle in Tsuen Wan on April 9.

On February 15, an armed robber was shot dead at North Point after a botched raid on a gold shop.

The first suspect died on January 6, shot during a raid on a Nathan Road jewellery shop.
