EMI offers launch pad for young musicians

EMI is taking the initiative to put Hong Kong talent on the map.

After the recent release of A Musical Postcard from Hong Kong and seeing the raw, young, untapped talent at the Rockit Festival, Hans Ebert, executive director of EMI Music South East Asia, decided he wants to create a platform for young local musicians.

Ebert (below) is launching a talent search with the aim of releasing a CD by the spring with the working title Musical Scenes From Hong Kong, featuring his finds.

EMI is inviting all types of musicians in Hong Kong, from hip hop to classical to indie rock, to send in their recordings, no matter how rough they may be.

Ebert and his team will go through a process of elimination and pick up what they believe to be the strongest tracks - the more original, the better. 'We plan to release the CD [in Hong Kong] first and, yes, if they are good enough we would like to sign up the artists and market them internationally,' says Ebert.
