Deadline nears for taxi lpg switch

Taxis owners who want to apply for the $40,000 grant available under the Liquified Petroleum Gas Taxi Grant Scheme must submit their application to the Public Vehicles Unit of the Transport Department by next Wednesday. The scheme provides a one-off grant to diesel-taxi owners who switch to LPG. Owners must switch by the end of the month.

Not-so-righteous pillars of society

Illegal immigrants have been hiding inside pillars supporting flyovers, police said, after finding four men wanted for a robbery in Tsim Sha Tsui had been hiding in a hollow support for a Hunghom flyover. Police found mattresses, suitcases and food in the pylon. They said they would look at other pillars and liaise with government departments to seal them.

Computer users warned of christmas mischief

Computer users have been reminded by the government to keep their computers updated with the latest anti-virus and software security patches to protect against cyber attacks during the festive season. The Information Technology Services Department said some viruses or malicious programmes might be disguised as seasonal greetings.

smugglers caught with submerged oil tank

Customs officers seized 400 litres of smuggled petrol from a submerged oil tank hooked to a tow boat. The suspended tank was on its way to the mainland for a refill. Three men were arrested when the vessel was stopped off Chai Wan. Investigators estimated the smugglers made $60,000 from each tank.

There was one winner of the $41,657,375 first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 5, 17, 19, 34, 42 and 48. The extra number was 44. Eight tickets each won the second prize of $569,055. Third prize paid $61,620.
