The sons of Alan Li Fook-sum hold their father's portrait as they are driven to the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point yesterday, where hundreds turned up to pay their last respects to the former Jockey Club chairman.
Friends and family gathered for a memorial service, which began at 11am and lasted about 20 minutes, in a high-ceilinged room on the first floor of the funeral home.
Wreaths, wrapped in white banners and with words of respect dedicated to Li, 66, lined the walls of the funeral home. They included one from Financial Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen.
Li died suddenly of a suspected heart attack in Phuket, Thailand, on December 30 last year.
Current Jockey Club chairman Ronald Arculli described Li's contribution to the Hong Kong horse racing industry as 'immeasurable'.
