Taller, thinner, but stolen boy is home safe

The four-year-old son of a Hong Kong businessman was reunited with his parents in Shenzhen yesterday after being abducted eight months ago and sold for 15,600 yuan to a mainland woman.

Ng Ko-wan was collected by his parents at the office of the Public Security Bureau in Shenzhen's Lo Wu district about 3pm after a DNA examination confirmed he was the son of Hong Kong resident Ng Man-chui, 48.

'I recognised him immediately. He is a bit taller but has lost some weight,' Mr Ng said. 'I dreamt about him every night after he went missing last year. Now he stands in front of me. I'm very pleased.'

The couple took Ko-wan shopping and for a haircut, then sat down to their first dinner together in eight months.

The boy told his parents the Wang family, who bought him from a child-snatching ring, treated him very well. The Wangs surrendered the boy as soon as mainland police told them he had been abducted. Mr Ng phoned the family and thanked them for looking after his son and promised to visit them.

Ko-wan was found by police in Chaozhou, northeastern Guangdong, on Tuesday morning but he was not allowed to see his parents because the DNA test was required.

Ko-wan was abducted when he went alone to buy snacks outside his home in the Caopu area of Lo Wu on May 17.

He was among 19 children, aged three to five, reported missing in Lo Wu last year. Ten children were recovered in October.
