Massive police search for country park robbers

More than 120 police officers were last night searching Lion Rock country park for two robbers after two women hikers were robbed of $300, two mobile phones, a palm computer and a windbreaker. It was the second such robbery reported in two days. The women, both 37, were confronted by the men, one armed with a pair of scissors, while hiking along the MacLehose Trail about 1pm. Police said the thieves were probably the same men who robbed two Korean women in the country park on Tuesday.

Three die amid big chill in new territories

Three people died as the temperature fell to as low as nine degrees Celsius in the New Territories. A cold weather warning was still in force last night. Temperatures fell to as low as nine degrees in Ta Kwu Ling and 12 degrees in urban areas. Urban temperatures are expected to reach 18 degrees tomorrow.

suspect in Kwai Chung killing surrenders

A 26-year-old man surrendered at the Ma On Shan police station, saying he had been involved in an alleged murder in a Kwai Chung car park this month. On January 16, a 41-year-old man died in a fight near Container Terminal 3. The 26-year-old man will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today to face murder charges. Three other men are already facing murder charges related to the case.

New Building body set up

A new statutory body will be established to reform the construction industry. The Construction Industry Council will be responsible for formulating codes of conduct and administering registration and rating schemes.
