Drumming up business

My talented colleague and friend Harry Harrison - whose wit is on display on the right side of this column every week - witnessed this novel form of extortion during the Lunar New Year holidays.

It apparently involved door-to-door lion dancing, accompanied by loud drumming outside every shop until someone gave them money.

The incident took place halfway down Bonham Strand in Sheung Wan. The boys were eventually stopped and ID-checked by patrolling officers.

As extortion goes, LoDown thinks this looks pretty respectable. At least it involves some artistic efforts. It sure beats the usual fist-in-your-face method favoured by triads.
