Top banker kills himself aboard yacht
A senior executive of a Japanese bank was yesterday found dead aboard his $13 million yacht, moored off Lamma island.
The body of Ronald Tsang Hin-kei, 39, was discovered next to a stove of burned charcoal by his ex-wife, surnamed Wong, and the yacht's captain.
Mr Tsang was believed to have been vice-president of the bank. Police said the case had been classified as suicide.
A note found next to the body disclosed that Tsang was in financial trouble, a police source said.
Tsang was mentioned in a Next Magazine article on January 29 which claimed that he had approved large loans to an investment company which was subsequently declared bankrupt by Tsang's employers. The article said that Tsang's annual income was about $3 million.
In 2001, he purchased a Mid-Levels flat for $38 million cash, the article claimed.
A police source said Tsang went to his new 19-metre Azimut yacht on Friday and asked the captain to take the weekend off as he wanted to be alone.
The captain became concerned and went back to the yacht at its mooring in Sham Wan yesterday. It is believed that he encountered a locked door and called Tsang's ex-wife. They found the body in a below-deck cabin at 7pm.
