Nestle pleads not guilty to tissue found in dessert
Food manufacturer Nestle is being sued by a consumer who allegedly found a piece of tissue paper in one of its bean curd dessert products. Nestle has pleaded not guilty under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance to having sold food not of the substance demanded. The customer, Intrapen Kanlaya, bought the dessert from a Wellcome supermarket in North Point last June, Eastern Court heard yesterday. The case was adjourned to March 1.
robbers target north point churches
Police are investigating a burglary and an attempted burglary at two churches in North Point. The intruders took $3,000 from a cash donation box at one of the churches, in Cheung Hong Street. An hour after the theft was discovered, police were called to a church 200 metres away in Ching Wah Street after staff found a window of an office had been prised open. Nothing was stolen.
Police put the foot down on illegal workers
Immigration officers rounded up 24 mainland visitors - 16 women and eight men - for allegedly working in eight foot reflexology shops in a crackdown against illegal workers. Eight Hong Kong residents were also arrested for allegedly employing them when 57 officers raided the eight shops in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Shamshuipo and Wong Tai Sin.
Pair held over break-in
Two mainland visitors were arrested for trying to break into an art school in Tin Hau. The men, aged 31 and 36, triggered a burglar alarm when they tried to break a window at the Lo Fung Art Centre in Lau Sin Street at about 3.30am.
officer hit by taxi
An off-duty policeman was fighting for his life after being hit by a taxi in Tsing Yi. The constable, 31, was crossing Tsing Yi Road West when he was knocked down at about 12.30am.
Driver hurt in collision
A 53-year-old taxi driver suffered a minor leg injury when his vehicle collided with two other taxis and two private cars on the Kwun Tong bypass.
