Bit of stick

It's colour all the way this season, according to the fashion police. Not a bad idea, seeing we've been through a few bleak wintry weeks. Experts say changing your lip shade is the easiest way to change your look and brighten your make-up. And if you suffer that perennial problem of vanishing lipstick then make-up guru Bobbi Brown says matte is the best option. Another long-wear technique is to use a lip pencil in the same shade as your lipstick, and apply it over the lipstick to help keep the colour in place.

Sheer indulgence

Dior has a smorgasbord of shades to choose from, with the launch of its Addict Ultra-Shine collection. The new sheer sticks ($150) are available in 18 colours. If you want to up the gloss stakes, then apply the Addict Ultra-Gloss shine lip gloss. Available from Dior counters.

Think pink New York-based company Tony&Tina follows holistic principles. One of its funkiest products this season is a limited-edition palette with four herbal lip glosses in fuchsia, orange-pink, light pink and hot pink ($240). Available from Faces, Sogo, Seibu in Pacific Place and Windsor House and Seiyu.

Paint box

Applying Prada's spring lip collection is a tad more involved than the average stick. Prada has released a beauty box containing SPF lip tint in a palette of seven sheer shades ($450). Each tube of tint balm comes sealed in a mini-dose envelope and contains nourishing ingredients such as macadamia nut and avocado to add shine, and antioxidant vitamin E and panthenol to heal, soothe and revive dry, chapped lips, while the addition of UVA and UVB screens out damaging elements that age the skin. Available from Prada counters.

Sunny side up

Chanel's new Aqualumiere collection ($145) claims not only to be the ultimate in comfort and shine but adheres to Mademoiselle Chanel's love for the sun, sea and sport. The range is fragrance-free and includes the ultra-hydrating phytantriol, as well as an SPF 15. The 15 new colours range from beige to plum. Available from Chanel counters.

Sultry numbers

The people at Shu Uemura have obviously spent a lot of time in tropical gardens - the inspiration for its latest collection, Paradis. Describing the cult Japanese cosmetic company's Spring collection as bright is an understatement. For lips, it has three new sticks ($160) in salmon pink, rose pink and reddish pink.
