Teenager gets 9 months for sex attack in boys' home
A teenager who held down a fellow inmate at a boys' home during a sexual assault was jailed for nine months yesterday after a judge found she had no other sentencing options.
The 16-year-old - whose name could not be revealed for legal reasons - had pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault for his part in the sexual attack spearheaded by dormitory monitor Wong Man-chung, 18.
Wong was previously found guilty of two counts of indecent assault, one of non-consensual buggery and two of indecent conduct with a child under the age of 16 in attacks between July 26 and 28, 2002.
The assaults took place after the victim, 15, had annoyed Wong by complaining about his behaviour to superiors.
Ruling on February 13, Madam Justice Clare-Marie Beeson found the attacks were not for sexual gratification but a means of bullying and ordered Wong to be interned at a training centre.
She pointed out yesterday that when dealt with earlier by the courts, the teenager - who was from a 'disastrous family background' - managed to fool a psychiatrist into recommending a hospital order.
'There is nothing wrong mentally with this defendant but he is astute to adopt symptoms to convince a psychiatrist of that,'' she said. 'Now the psychiatrists have realised that he has been manipulating the system.''
Madam Justice Beeson noted his already 'chequered history'.
