Have your palm read and help the alley cats
CitySeen is sure you have noticed that Hong Kong's streets are littered with many things, but something that should not be so prevalent (and considered litter) are the cats who are always roaming the alleys looking for food.
For 10 years, Marion Banaghan has been looking after stray cats. She feeds more than 100 of them every night, from Caine Road to Mosque Street in Central. In November last year Marion and Michelle Temple formed the Hong Kong Alley Cats Society with the mission of helping the cats and providing health care and homes.
'It is about responsible pet ownership. Cats can live for 20 years and they should not just be dumped on the street,' says Michelle. Her society also wants to promote awareness of Hong Kong's cat problem - it has so far trapped and neutered 140 cats and returned them to the streets.
Tomorrow night the society will hold its first fundraiser at Club 97 in Lan Kwai Fong. Expect it to be a good one - the entry price of $180 gets you two drinks, canapes and a chance to hear some of the hottest DJs in town: Steve Yau, Tim Tse and Henry Lee.
There are also Indian head massages and palm readings on offer, and if that is not enough you can buy yourself a date: organisers have confirmed that six men and women have agreed to be auctioned off for a date.
