Boutique Wines is having an Australian wine dinner on March 17 at DotCod restaurant in the basement of the Prince's Building in Central. The four-course dinner starts with an appetiser choice of Australian shrimps with mesclun salad and grapefruit dressing or steamed Australian green asparagus with hollandaise sauce, paired with the Peel Estate Verdelho 2002 from the Margaret River in Western Australia and the Moorooduc Estate Chardonnay 2001 from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. The main course is a choice of roast New Zealand lamb chops or pan-fried Australian barramundi fillet, paired with the Geoff Hardy Petit Verdot 1999 from the Limestone Coast in South Australia and the Woody Nook Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 from the Margaret River. If you've got a hefty disposable income and enjoy wine, you might want to book one of the special wine dinners Restaurant Petrus at the Island Shangri-La is holding over the next three months. Seating is limited to 20 per dinner, so these events will probably sell out, despite the price. There aren't any seats left for Tuesday, which features a horizontal tasting of the 1982 vintage of six premier grand cru Bordeaux, but there are still seats available for the next two dinners. The event on April 20 features the premier grand cru Chateau Cheval Blanc, with a vertical tasting of vintages 1953, 1955, 1975, 1978, 1989 and 1995. The dinner is $7,500 plus 10 per cent. On May 11, the event features the wines of the revered Petrus. Guests will taste six vintages: 1964, 1975, 1982, 1986, 1989 and 1990. The dinner is $14,500 plus 10 per cent.
