Police catch armed bank robber who took hostage

An armed bank robber who took an elderly customer hostage was arrested yesterday after a brief chase. The robber, armed with a 25cm-long knife, took a 66-year-old woman hostage and demanded cash at a bank on Shanghai Street in Mongkok. He released the hostage after a teller gave him $4,990, and boarded a minibus. He switched to a taxi which was intercepted by police just blocks away from the bank. The suspect was detained and charges had yet to be laid last night.

government warning over sanyo wall-mounted fans

Users of Sanyo EF-12KA wall-mounted electric fans should return them to the distributor and get a replacement, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said. The fans may short-circuit after extended use, according to the department. People with the fans, which were sold from March 1999 to September 2000, should call 8108 3331 for details about the return.

fake bank website found

The Commercial Crime Bureau is investigating a fake website that claims to belong to the Dah Sing Bank (DSB). Authorities said the fraudulent site, www.dasxin.com, looked very similar to the authentic DSB website.
