Chance to meet composer George Lloyd

DO not miss out the chance to attend the event called ''Meeting George Lloyd'', which is jointly presented by the Friends of the Philharmonic and Hong Kong Arts Centre, if you want to know more about music composition.

It is believed that George Lloyd is no stranger to local music lovers.

Two years ago, his 10th symphony was played here by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under the composer's baton.

It was a memorable evening. Audiences and players alike were impressed by the tremendous energy of the grey-haired composer and the exceptional charm of his music.

George Lloyd is undoubtedly an immensely successful composer.

He broke Beethoven's ''number 9'' curse by producing a 12th symphony. His music communicates well with listeners using language that everyone can easily understand.

On the occasion of his return to conduct his 9th symphony and also the world premiere of his ''Floating Cloud'' with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Friends of the Philharmonic, members of the Arts Centre and other music lovers will be able to meet him personally.

During the meeting, Mr Lloyd, as a major British composer, will share with music-lovers his opinion about the music composition trend in Britain, what makes a good composer and how music composition has attracted him.

At the same time, he will tell of what it feels like conducting his own works and how can today's composer find his/her direction as it is difficult or maybe impossible to locate the ''mainstream'' in composition.

The meeting, to be conducted in English and supplemented in Cantonese, will be held on September 29 at the Lion Practice Room, 10/F, Hong Kong Arts Centre from 8 pm to 9 pm.

Admission fee is $10 (Member of the Friends of the Philharmonic or Arts Centre) or $20 (Non-members).

To book a seat, call Jimmy Shiu at 721-2320.
