Report underage betting: Jockey Club

Martin Wong

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is urging the public to use its new hotline to help prevent underage gambling.

'Anyone who spots the entry [into betting branches or race courses] of a person under 18 or wearing a school uniform is urged to inform the guard on duty for our immediate action. Or they can call the hotline to provide information for us to act quickly,' a spokesman said.

The hotline, 1830266, will open on a trial basis from today.

The spokesman said the club had enforced strict guidelines to prohibit children entering or placing bets in betting branches or via any of its telephone or interactive channels.

'The club has a long-standing policy of providing betting in a socially responsible way as part of the government's fight against illegal gambling,' the spokesman said.

He added that underage gambling was a global problem.

'Like other parts of the world, our community should work together to educate our youth on the matter, and above all, not encourage people to bet.

The Jockey Club is obliged to operate within its licensing conditions and any breach can result in its licence being revoked.
