JAPAN'S NYK Line plans to start the Margarita Express service between Asia and Central America next month.

The carrier's bi-weekly service is designed to outperform conventional freighter services using its Los Angeles connection.

Dedicated 500 TEU (20 ft equivalent unit) container ships, equipped with loading gear, service the segment between LA and western Central America.

From LA ships will call at Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

Weather-related loading and unloading delays have been eliminated as all cargo is containerised.

The new service provides fixed-day, scheduled service to and from all Far East ports served by the carrier's Far East Express (FEX), Singapore California Express (SCX), Japan California Express (JCX) and Pacific Atlantic Express (PAX) services.
