Patriotism debate takes centre stage

Just about the only top government official who has not joined the great patriotism debate is the police force's top dog, Commissioner Dick Lee Ming-kwai (below), but that doesn't mean he is not doing his part for the motherland.

The force is now rehearsing a stage play about Yue Fei, the Sung Dynasty general renowned for his patriotism. The play is scheduled to debut in July.

There have been reports that Dick will play the general while Susan Tang Yew Zoe-chi (left), will play his mother, who famously tattooed four Chinese characters meaning 'sacrifice yourself for the country' on the general's back when he was a young man. Mrs Tang is, of course, the mother of Financial Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen.

Neither the police nor Mr Tang's office would confirm or deny the rumours, so LoDown can report here that they must be true.
