A seven-year-old girl who crosses the Lowu checkpoint every day to attend school in Hong Kong has won three national gold awards for the performing arts.

Ng Yuen-see, a Primary One student at Tung Koon School in Sheung Shui, took part in the mainland's first children's arts festival in Shenzhen in February.

She won three awards in personal modelling, group modelling and the performance section.

Hong Kong did not send a delegation to the children's festival, so Yuen-see had to join the Shenzhen delegation.

Xinhua reported that the girl, who started studying at the Sheung Shui school in September last year, trains in performing arts every weekend in Shenzhen.

She is no newcomer to awards. Since she was four, she has taken part in various contests and has already won 16 awards, many of them national prizes.

Yuen-see has been having lessons in singing, dancing, modelling and programme-hosting since she was three.

She told Xinhua: 'I love music. Once I hear music, I stop crying.

'My mother said when I was only seven months old I would sit in front of the TV quietly to enjoy other children's singing and dancing, and my hands moved with the rhythm.

'Therefore, my parents let me study performing arts.'

But her school in Hong Kong was unaware of her talent.

It only found out about Yuen-see's achievements after being advised of them by the festival organiser.

She will shortly give a solo performance at Tung Koon School to give fellow students a glimpse of her talent.
