Complaints line ringing hot

The Communist Party's complaints hotline received almost 40,000 calls in its first 11 days of operation, media reports say.

Most of the 37,830 calls came from people wanting to offer suggestions, although there were also a large number of complaints about the selection and appointment of officials.

The party's Organisation Department set up the hotline on March 29. Calls are answered by a network of call centres run by 466 party committees across 31 provinces and municipalities.

Each centre has been issued with guidelines on how calls should be answered, registered, recorded and reported on, as well as how every case must be checked, investigated and supervised.
