After more than two months of promises, Executive Councillor Leung Chun-ying and Legco firebrand Emily Lau Wai-hing are finally working to fix a date to debate their differences over Taiwan.

The two had already agreed to meet publicly to debate Ms Lau's views on independence for Taiwan, after Mr Leung, in a series of articles in February, questioned the legislator's patriotism after she said she would respect the choice of the Taiwanese people as to whether the island became independent.

In a letter to Ms Lau yesterday, Mr Leung said he had asked a public relations consultant to arrange a debate with her.
