39 poisoned by raw prawns at sports day
Thirty-nine people who attended a sports day at Aberdeen's Singapore International School on Saturday have been struck with food poisoning.
The outbreak - which involved parents, staff and one student - prompted the Department of Health to issue a warning against food-borne infections in the hot weather.
None of those affected required hospital treatment and all have since recovered. They had all eaten under-cooked prawns that had been provided by one of the parents.
A department spokesman said an investigation found the cause of the illness was bacterial food-poisoning linked to cross-contamination from cooked and uncooked food.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department staff also visited the home of the parent who prepared the food. Swabs and food samples were taken.
