NT school steals the show at robotic arm design contest

Shap Pat Heung Rural Committee Kung Yik She Secondary School dominated the Hong Kong Inter-school Straw Robotic Arm Design and Construction Competition.

They swept the top three prizes in the junior category (for Form One to Three students).

On top of that, they also won third prize in the senior category (for Form Four to Seven students).

A total of 400 teams entered the competition, organised by City University's Students' Union Physics and Materials' Science Society.

Each team was given 180 straws and a roll of string to design and build a robotic arm within two hours.

Then the teams had to use their 'arm' to transport a bottle of Yakult as far as possible.

SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School was crowned champion in the senior category with a distance of 3.8 metres - the longest of the day. SKH Leung Kwai Yee Secondary School came second.

The winning team from Kung Yik She Secondary School recorded a distance of 3.27 metres in the junior category.
