Move over, Manolo, and goodbye Gucci. If you want to be hot to trot this summer slip into a pair of PF Flyers. Invented by American canvas-shoe pioneer B.F. Goodrich, PF (Posture Foundation) was an innovative inner sole designed to provide ergonomic foot support. Goodrich incorporated the new soles into his sports shoes and the super-comfy sneakers made their debut in 1933. They joined the fashion mainstream in the 1940s and 50s, with Goodrich rolling out designs for men, women and children, and by the 60s they were among the most sought-after shoes in the United States. Later they took a backseat to the similar-looking Converse All Stars but are now experiencing a revival. Sturdier than All Stars, PF Flyers cost about US$80 and come in a wide range of colours and designs including high- and low-tops and slip-ons. Not yet available in Hong Kong, they are afoot in style-conscious London at Offspring, 60 Neal Street, Covent Garden, tel: 44 207 497 2463 or see www.pfflyers.com.
