Police arrest husband over Tsing Yi killing

Police have arrested a man after his wife was found strangled in bed in their home in Tsing Yi last week.

Police yesterday said the suspect, 49, had been arrested on Monday for killing his wife, Tse Ka-chun, 36, after he regained consciousness and was disconnected from a respirator in Princess Margaret Hospital. Last Wednesday, the man and his wife were found unconscious at home in Ching Yung House, Cheung Ching Estate. Their flat had been filled with kerosene and LPG.

Taxi driver rescued from loansharks at road block

Police rescued a taxi driver held hostage by a loansharking syndicate, and arrested five suspects at a road block in Cheung Sha Wan. The victim, 48, had been beaten with water pipes and asked to raise $100,000 to settle his debt, even though he had only borrowed $15,000. He called his brother to raise the money, who reported it to the police. The victim and assailants drove to Golden Hill Road in Kam Shan Country Park where they ran into the police traffic control road block.

Police seek swine with taste for canine

Police were last night searching for a large wild pig on a public estate in Kwai Chung, after it reportedly attacked and ate a dog. Officers said they received a call just before 10pm, claiming the pig, estimated to be more than 1.5 metres long and weighing 150kg, was wandering a slope opposite Cho Chun House in Cho Yiu Chuen. The caller said he saw the dog being eaten.

Rubbish truck falls 15m

A runaway rubbish truck smashed through railings and crashed 15 metres down a slope in Kwai Chung. The driver was treated for minor injuries.

There was no winner of the first prize in last night's Mark Six lottery, so $11,537,831 will jackpot to Thursday. The numbers were 10, 21, 23, 30, 43, 49 and the extra number was 3. Two tickets won the second prize of $896,915.
