Five staff at Chek Lap Kok airport were rushed to hospital feeling sick after inhaling unidentified gas while unloading consignments from a Dragonair plane yesterday afternoon.

A government spokesman said the plane, in from Ningbo, touched down at the airport at about 5pm.

Staff from the airport authority began to unload cargo from the plane after all passengers had disembarked.

Five of the staff felt their eyes and throats become irritated however, allegedly after inhaling gas that was found to have leaked from cargos loaded with chemicals.

Initial investigations found the chemicals were phenyl isocyanate. The case was still under investigation last night.
