Green group warmly greets film's chilly plot

Is it getting chilly or what? That is the key question behind the new movie The Day After Tomorrow, which opens tomorrow.

The film is about catastrophic changes to the global climate that all happen in just one week. London, Moscow and Tokyo get buried in snow while New York freezes solid.

The film has been criticised for twisting and distorting scientific facts, but the folk at Greenpeace say they support its message.

'The movie may be fiction but climate change is real,' said Martin Baker, the group's spokesman in Hong Kong. Greenpeace is organising a world day of activities to take advantage of the movie's release, including launching a parody website, www.thedayaftertomorrow.org.

Mr Baker said the website's Hong Kong section would be ready by tomorrow.

It's also taking out ads before screenings of the movie and will target certain companies for their lack of environmental awareness.

'Our target in Hong Kong is CLP Power because they're not investing in renewable energy,' he said.
