Online church a heavenly hit

Kelvin Chan

It's been a while since CitySeen has gone to church, so that's why we were pleased to hear about churchoffools.com, an experimental online site sponsored by the Methodist Church of Britain.

Launched this month, the online church has proved to be a heavenly hit, attracting as many as 41,000 visitors a day at one point. The sponsors hope to draw more young people back to church.

Users can choose and name an online character and walk around a computer-generated church to talk to other parishioners, walk up to the pulpit or look at the icons on the wall.

We checked it out yesterday, and found a pretty pious group of people chatting, as well as a few rebels telling everyone: 'Texans are all going to hell.' So, it's actually like a real church after all.

Services are held every day at 6am and 3pm Hong Kong time.
