The Hong Kong under-15 side's hopes of playing at Old Trafford were dashed after losing three of their four group matches in the South East Asia regional finals of the Manchester United Premier Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hong Kong, represented by players from Yuen Long district, opened the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Singapore.

But the tight schedule - Hong Kong played three matches the next day - and the hot weather proved to be their downfall. They lost 2-0 to hosts Malaysia, 3-0 to hot favourites Thailand and 2-1 to New Zealand.

Coach Leung Shui-wing was pleased with the team's overall performance, especially in the game against the Kiwis in which they opened the scoring with a free-kick by captain Lo Chi-hin.

Supported by Nike, Manchester United Premier Cup is the world's most prestigious football tournament for players under 15.

Thailand, who beat New Zealand in the final, will join 19 other teams in the World Finals at Manchester United's home ground, Old Trafford.
