Police and lifeguards yesterday attempted to quell fears that a shark was lurking in the waters off Repulse Bay after a second reported sighting in as many days.
Swimmers were ordered from the water again after a tourist reported seeing a shark inside the protective net at the beach at 4.18pm.
The beach was closed for nearly two hours as marine police and lifeguards searched the waters - but they found no sign of a shark.
'We don't have much information except that someone rang us claiming to have seen a shark,' a police spokeswoman said.
'But they were unable to give us any sort of description of what the shark was supposed to have looked like. Police requested the lifeguard call all the swimmers back to shore. The person in charge has checked the shark nets and they are all fine.'
On Monday afternoon police received a 999 call from a man saying that he had spotted a shark's fin in the water off the beach at Repulse Bay.
