Walkers aim to raise $9 million for schools

Caryn Yap

Staff of TNT Express in Hong Kong will unite with their colleagues worldwide to 'walk the world' on Sunday, to raise funds for the UN World Food Programme's (UNWFP) fight against hunger.

An anticipated 80,000 TNT post group staff, friends and family from 64 countries will attempt to walk the equivalent of 10 times around the world to raise Euro1 million (HK$9.3 million) - enough to feed and educate 30,000 children for a year through the UNWFP school feeding campaign.

'We chose Father's Day to hold the walk because traditionally people will think about holding a family meal to celebrate,' said Ambrose Linn, TNT's deputy-country general manager.

'We hope the 'walk the world' challenge this year will also encourage people to think about wider world hunger and what a difference their sponsorship or donation could make,' he said.

The Hong Kong team will start their 5km walk at 10am in Quarry Bay Park. For further information, contact Allison Wright or Holly Tse on 2164 8880.
