A second-half double from Singapore under-17s striker Ahmed Fahmie broke Hong Kong hearts and handed the hosts a crucial second win in the 19th Lion City Cup.

Fahmie's double either side of So Wai-chuen's equaliser for Hong Kong gave the hosts a 2-1 win at the Toa Payoh Stadium.

The win was vital for Singapore who are likely to qualify for the final if they beat their under-16 counterparts today. Hong Kong, who won their opening match, had defended solidly, keeping the home side at bay until the 59th minute. Goalkeeper Choy Yiu-fai and defender Cheng Ching-hang both failed to deal with a long kick from Singapore goalie Zaiful Nizam, and Fahmie gleefully slipped in to tuck the ball into the net.

The visitors caught Singapore napping 10 minutes later as So scrambled home the equaliser after a flowing counter-attack.

Fahmie rifled home Singapore's winner 14 minutes from the end.

In another match, Malaysia u-17s bounced back from their 4-0 hammering by Singapore to edge past Perth 1-0. Hong Kong play Perth today.
