Keeping Clinton's Life under wraps
US publishing giant Random House has been less than an open book over the Hong Kong release of Bill Clinton: My Life, CitySeen spies say.
Massive anticipation for the former US president's memoirs has seen an extraordinarily tight embargo in place until it goes on sale at 12.01am on Tuesday in New York. Random House initially said the book could be launched simultaneously in Hong Kong at noon on Tuesday. But the publisher decided against allowing Asia to have first taste of the book during business hours. It will now be released here at 12.01am on Wednesday.
'It's very disappointing,' a source in the local book scene said. 'There were similar embargoes for the release of David Beckham's autobiography. It worked well and everyone followed the rules.'
Distributors, retailers, even the freight handlers, have been forced to sign affidavits promising to keep the book under wraps until its release.
