Border posts are hot spots for dengue fever, with mosquito densities soaring last month, new figures show.
A Port Ovitrap Index - which measured mosquito infestation in 30 port areas - showed the average index last month was 6.1 per cent, compared with an average of 1.5 per cent in April.
But the highest index at 32.5 per cent was detected at border posts, including Lowu, Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To and Shataukok, the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said.
This compared with 5 per cent in April, the bureau said in a paper to be discussed today at the meeting of the Legco's food safety and environmental hygiene panel.
Also increasing sharply was the index measured around railway cargo handling areas, rising from 3.3 per cent in April to 16.7 per cent last month.
At public cargo areas, the index rose to 13.2 per cent, compared with 1.9 per cent in April.
