Canto-pop singer faces drug charge

Martin Wong

Canto-pop singer and actor Deep Ng Ho-hong will appear in Kowloon City Court tomorrow to face a charge of possession of a dangerous drug.

The 21-year-old singer was arrested with 1.2 grams of a white powder, believed to be cocaine, near his Tsim Sha Tsui studio on June 23, police allege.

Police said the arrest was made by Narcotics Bureau officers following a tip-off.

Ng was released on $5,000 bail after being detained at the Yau Ma Tei police station for five hours.

Ng, dubbed the 'new Eason Chan Yick-shun' due to their similarities in appearance and singing style, is a singer with Music Plus, a subsidiary of the Emperor Entertainment Group.

His arrest follows that of Roy Chow Wing-hang, who was arrested with 20 tablets of the party drug Erimin-5 in April.

The pair were actors in the TVB drama series The Academy, which was being made with the co-operation of the police, with some filming being done at the Police Training School in Wong Chuk Hang, Aberdeen.

Chow was pulled out of the show shortly after his arrest but Ng continued filming.

Chow, 20, pleaded guilty to possessing the tablets. His sentencing has been adjourned until July 30, pending a probation report.
