PolyU engineering receives top research grant of $38.2m
Engineering research projects being conducted at Polytechnic University (PolyU) have been recognised as 'world-class'.
The university has been awarded $38.2 million for 92 research projects in the field - the largest government grant given to any of the eight publicly funded institutions in Hong Kong.
It is the fourth consecutive year that PolyU engineering has beaten rivals for the highest amount of Competitive Earmarked Research Grant funding.
'We are proud to be able to uphold our leading position in engineering,' said Ko Jan-ming, PolyU vice-president of research development.
'These impressive results prove that many of our research projects are of world-class standards. Our faculty members are greatly encouraged by such recognition.'
Engineering wonders that have come from Poly U in recent years include the Mars Rock Corer, the world's first palmprint identification system and the Advanced Fibre Bragg Grating Railway Monitoring System.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology received the second highest amount of engineering funding of $32.3 million for 71 projects, and City University ranked third with $24.2 million for 52 projects.
