ANCIENT COINAGE

Ancient Greek coins are now on display in the exhibition History Re-stored: Ancient Greek Coins from the Zhuyuetang Collection, which runs until October 4 at the Museum of History.

The 126 coins presented in the exhibition display an essential chapter in the history of Greek coinage, which began in Asia in the seventh century BC and ended in Egypt in the first century BC.

An array of historical events took place during this period, which includes the exploits of Alexander the Great, the rule of his successors and the downfall of the last Greek kingdom in Egypt at the hands of Rome. The coins depict Greek gods, goddesses and ceremonies associated with the Olympic Games.

As well as the exhibition, a number of other Greek artefacts are also on display.

The admission fee is $10 (adults) and $5 (students). Free admission on Wednesdays. The museum closes on Tuesdays.
