Expatriates 'will be heard'

Jimmy Cheung

The views of expatriates and ethnic minorities on political reform were valuable and would be considered by the government, the groups were assured yesterday.

'[These groups] quite clearly attach great importance to this participatory process. They have expressed a wide spectrum of views,' Chief Secretary Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said.

'The government of course will respect these views as much as we do other views from other sectors of the community that we have met.'

He was speaking after a government taskforce on constitutional review held a consultation forum with foreign business leaders and ethnic groups' representatives.

He said the expatriate community played an important part in Hong Kong and deserved thorough consultation.

'We want to make sure that we will be inclusive,' he said.
