AUSTRALIAN trainer Neville Begg's Winning Partners stamped himself as a potential International Bowl contender when running out a quality winner of yesterday's sixth event at Sha Tin, writes Racing Editor Lawrence Wadey.
The Australian import was completing his third win from four starts for Begg, enjoying a dream weekend.
''We won two Group Ones back at home on Saturday and were just beaten in the other,'' beamed Begg.
''This win has made for a really good couple of days.'' The 1,400-metre International Bowl beckons as an obvious medium-term target for Winning Partners, who cruised home by three and a quarter lengths from Nitrogen - a big margin down the straight 1,000-metre course.
Betting turnover topped the $1 billion mark for the first time this season. Some 46,741 made their way to Sha Tin while another 11,114 used the Happy Valley cross-betting facilities.
It was not a good day for French jockey Eric Legrix, who picked up a three-meeting ban for careless riding in the first event. Legrix said: ''I have no complaints, it was just one of those things.''
