Lion City just perfect for a great escape
People's love-hate relationship with Singapore is normally more talk than anything else. The city state's shopping facilities, its natural beauty and world-class infrastructure make it a fantastic place for Hongkongers to visit.
The direct 3?-hour journey means it is perfect if you want to treat yourself to a short break or even a long weekend. Although you can never get away from the equatorial heat and humidity, Singapore's luxury hotels and relaxed atmosphere provide a real escape from life's stresses and strains.
This summer, Cathay Pacific Holidays has put together a four-day, three-night package, inclusive of airfare and hotel. The deal is valid from now until August 24 and starts from just $2,599. What makes this deal special is that not only do you fly on Cathay Pacific Airways and have a choice of superb accommodation, but you also get an additional 3,000 Asia Miles.
Four selected hotels are all downtown, within in easy reach of the central business district and the famed Orchard Road shopping area.
Take your pick from the Concorde Hotel, with its stunning atrium lobby, or the Swissotel The Stamford, which gives commanding views of the island and was once the tallest hotel in the world.
Alternatively, you can select the Singapore Marriott Hotel (located right above the MRT station in Orchard Road) or the Grand Hyatt (in neighbouring Scotts Road), with its beautiful landscaped gardens.
Transfers to and from Changi Airport are included but, if you need something exclusive, a private car or van can easily be arranged for a small fee.
If downtown is not for you, stroll around the extensive Botanic Gardens, Jurong Bird Park or even take a night safari at the zoo. There is also the resort island of Sentosa, with its entertainment and restaurants right on the newly upgraded beachfront.
One of the more novel ways of seeing the city these days is on board a 'duck'. Operating daily, this amphibious vehicle in duck disguise will take you on an hour-long heritage tour, covering the civic district and a harbour cruise.
The Lion City has never been so accessible or appealing.
This is an all-inclusive package covering economy-class air tickets, an airport security charge and TIC levy, insurance and three nights' accommodation, with daily breakfast.
And when you book this package you will get a bonus 3,000 Asia Miles on top of the normal flight entitlement.
