Not-so-subtle DVD advertising pitch
Gome, the leading home appliance chain on the mainland, is using a not-so-subtle advertising ploy to promote its DVD players in Hong Kong.
LoDown visited its flagship store in Mongkok and noticed a sign dangling over stacks of DVD players costing just $399 each.
The sign said the machines 'specialised in playing original DVD discs'.
But the Chinese character for 'original' was upside down - how clever!
A salesman told LoDown that, in fact, the machine could play all types of discs - including pirated copies.
