The public can enjoy free rides on specially designed trams today as part of Hong Kong Tramways' centenary celebrations.

Three of the six colourful centenary tramcars have been designed by renowned local artists Water Poon, Mary Pandora Cheung and Yim Yee-king (otherwise known as Ah Chung).

The centenary trams will be in service on all six routes from 6am to midnight.

In addition, a centenary party will be held at 2.30pm today at Times Square's open piazza, during which the winners of the drawing and photo competitions of the Hong Kong trams centenary will be announced.

Other commemorative events include sets of limited-edition centenary souvenir tickets designed by Ah Chung, special stamps and exhibitions at Times Square and Star Ferry piers.
