2046: a never-ending movie?

Flora Wu

When 2046, the movie of Hong Kong's leading film director Wong Kar-wai, was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, everyone thought the crew of the long-awaited movie had finally finished shooting. But when Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura was spotted in town last week, questions were raised over whether production had really finished.

The iconic director was overheard saying at Cannes: 'Of course, if you give me three more weeks or months the film would be different.' It seems to CitySeen that Wong won't stop 'perfecting' his movie until it hits Hong Kong cinemas early in October.

It was reported in several local publications that Kimura, who arrived in Hong Kong one week ago, worked non-stop for nearly 20 hours before he took an eight-hour rest at the Shangri-La Hotel (where he is said to stay every time he comes to Hong Kong). But it is not known whether he came to shoot a promo-trailer, posters or some extra parts for the movie.
